Men-an-tol
==========
Writen by The Levellers, from the "Zeitgeist" album.

From the 1995 Album Zeitgeist, a brilliant acoustic version exists on One
Way of Life CD2. I couldn't believe this song wasn't up here - it's one of
my favourites & I've been working on the site six months, so I don't know
how that slipped through. By the standards of Levs stuff, this is
relatively complex to play accurately but well worth it.
On the recording the song is in D minor. I couldn't sing that high so I
have transcribed the song in A minor. You may then put a capo on the
highest fret that your voice will allow. I also believe that this
transcription is easier to play than to play in D minor - I don't know
whether the Levellers used capos or not.
There are various bass riffs in this song without which the song will not
sound right. I have resorted to tab, lousy though I am at it, and I hope I
have made the sections clear.
This song should be played loud, fast, accurately and with gusto.
NB 'h' in tab indicates a hammer on between the two frets shown.

NB On the acoustic version, riff A is simplified. Play the first & second
bars as usual, then just strum C major for four counts (bar 3), then
finish with the last bar as shown.

Am C
And so I find myself among the brave south-western hills
C Am Riff B
Running like a mad man on the moor
Am C
Let the sweet Atlantic rain wash away the ills
C Am Riff B
The Men-an-Tol shone strangely in the storm
C Am
And I get the strangest feeling, in the air around
C Am Riff C
It's more than just a feeling
C Am
A different way of seeing, a different kind of life
C Am Riff B
Something I believe in.
Em Am
But here amongst your city lights, the feeling's not so clear
Em Am
Your faceless towers and neon signs hide what I hold dear
C
But it's there to find if you have the mind
D
And you don't live in fear of it
Riff A x 2
I rest amongst what still remains of lives that passed before
Lightning strikes the top of Zennor Tor
And I find myself amazed again at man's pathetic score
Years of knowledge wasted and ignored
And I get the strangest feeling, in the air around
It's more than just a feeling
A different way of seeing, a different kind of life
Something I believe in.
But here amongst your city lights, the feeling's not so clear
Neon lights and faceless signs hide what I hold dear
But it's there to find if you have the mind
And you don't live in fear of it
Riff A finishing on Am.
