Voices on the Wind Go to Lewis's transcription
==================

Written by the Levellers. Appears on the new album Hello Pig.

Transcribed by Alan Bigham from the live version (from the Nottingham gig)
on the 12th of August 2000. Please send any corrections: I'm particularly
skeptical of the what I think are the lyrics.

I did start tabbing the intro and if you're interested it starts
off like this:

e|-----------5------ Repeated a couple of times. Most of the
B|-------5-6---6---- chords to begin with are just picked on
G|-----7---------7-- the guitar (or the mandolin?), while the
D|---7-------------- distored electric comes in on the second
A|-5---------------- verse (mainly). :)
E|------------------

VERSE I:
Dm F C Dm
There's a man on the mountain who hides himself away
Dm F C Dm
A voice on the wind there is telling him to stay
Dm F C Dm
He knows on the outside the world has looked away
Dm F C Dm
From the knight in the valley that took them all away

Dm (for 3 measures)

VERSE II:
The rock of ages is broken as his feet
The history of centuries is scattered down the street
The houses are all empty now left broken there to die
The children's playground's burnt and gone, no-one left to cry

CHORUS:
         Dm F C Dm
 Can you h--e--a--r it?
         Dm F C Dm
Can you hear the sound of voices carrying on the wind
         Dm F C Dm
 Can you hear it?
         Dm F C Dm
Can you hear the sound of voices carried on the wind

VERSE III:
Well he drowned himself in sorrow he drowned himself in drink
He drowned himself in self-pity until it made him sick
And he knew he was no monster just a slave to himself
To the voices that would torture that he takes to his grave

CHORUS

VERSE IV:
Time passes slowly, at times he's out to loss
He wishes he could change it all but you can't turn back the clocks
He picks up the broken pieces of the oh-so-sacred rock
And he takes them to a safer place where they'll be forever lost

CHORUS

Dm F C Dm x3

         Dm F C Dm
Can you hear the sound of voices carried on the wind
